SustainableCentralCA.org is the web site of the Institute for Sustainable Living.

Who We Are

The Institute for Sustainable Living is a community-based non-profit, non-partisan educational organization devoted to engaging people in San Luis Obispo County area in open discussion of:

  • The implications of current human living and business practices that contribute to global warming and other destabilizing impacts on the social, cultural, health, economic and ecological well-being of our community; and
  • Increasing awareness and wider-scale adoption of sustainable and practical living and business practices that contribute to preserving, restoring and growing the local social, cultural, economic, environmental, health and safety infrastructure that will add value to our lives over the long term.

What We Do

We host local events with leading practitioners, business and government leaders that are actively engaged in implementing, developing, educating, communicating, and providing leadership in the current and potential future use of practical, sustainable living and business practices.

Institute events are a unique opportunity to engage in candid, open discussions with people who are shaping the wider-scale application and dialog concerning sustainable, practical living and business practices to can add value to our lives. Most events are open to the general public.

In addition to our general educational programming, we plan to offer targeted educational resources more designed around the specific needs of our membership. As part of these programs, we will partner with other organizations that are practicing sustainable human practices.
